So, I haven't been on here in a long time, so I'm going to do a little update.
I turned 16! Yaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!
I got a lot of stuff too, and I'm probably going to do a haul video eventually.
I started school again. I'm a junior this year.. Where has the time gone?
This is my hardest year because I'm taking 3 AP classes.
AP classes are college level, and give you college credit so you don't have to take them in college.
So, they're very difficult.
I've been very busy again, so I won't get to go on here very often.
I started this blog at the end of last school year, because I knew my summer was going to be uneventful.
Now that I have marching band, piano lessons, and a buttload of homework every day and weekends, I rarely have extra time for ANYTHING.
It does suck, but it will pay off in the end.
Lately I have been very into college, and been looking a lot.
It's my motivation for everything.
All this hard work will pay off in the end, and hopefully I can get into a good school.

Dubstep
So, dubstep is a very new genre in today's music. It is met by lots of controversy, of course, as any genre is. But it is a very futuristic type of music, that really shows that the future is here.
When one says dubstep, what usually comes to mind is Skrillex. He is probably one of the biggest dubstep artists today, in my opinion.
I actually really love Skrillex, surprisingly. People call me that as a kind of mean name because I have a side shave and wear glasses, so they associate that with Skrillex automatically. Which also shows how famous he is.
There are many other dubstep artists of course. For some reason, some very close-minded people have somehow gotten the impression that Skrillex is the ONLY dubstep there is. It confuses me as to how anyone could think that..
Dubstep is a genre that old people (a.k.a. parents) will not like. It is very fast, with random bleeps and wub-wubs everywhere. All computerized. There is usually no singing, but there is at times.

Other popular dubstep artists include Deadmau5. Though Deadmau5 is dubstep, his version isn't as crazy and wild as Skrillex. It's more dancey and has singing in pretty much every song.
Other good dubstep artists include: Rusko, Nero, Flux Pavilion, Kaskade, Gemini, Datsik, Emalkay, Foreign Beggars, and Excision. Just to name a few.
I don't listen to dubstep that much, but it's one of those things, if I didn't listen to so much metal, I'd listen to dubstep like 24/7.
So, with that being said, go listen to dubstep to your hearts content, it's awesome.

My Summer Challenge
So, I have decided that, I am going to challenge myself this summer.
I feel like summer should be a relaxing time to kind of let go of things you normally have during the year.
My challenge is going to include a few parts.
Level 1:
I shall wear no shape or form of makeup until the first day of school.
Level 2:
I will not drink one energy drink until the first day of school.
Level 3:
I will not straighten my hair until the first day of school.
Level 4:
Every day, I will wear one article of clothing that has no black in it.
So, as you go up the levels, it's adding on things. So, for example, if I was on Level 3, I wouldn't straighten my hair, no energy drinks, and no makeup.
What I'm going to do, is start off at Level 4. If I wear everything with something black, then I am out of Level 4, no excuses. And then I will be in Level 3, and so on.
The reason that I am doing this challenge, is because I think it will be good for me in a few different reasons.
I have really bad skin, and have more and more breakouts lately, so I think a LONG break from makeup is in order.
I'm really unhealthy, I drink energy drinks like every day, and the result is me feeling sick a lot. So, no energy drinks all summer.
The 'article of clothing with no black' is more of a thing for summer. Yes, I am still goth, I'm not leaving the subculture or anything like that. To me, this is something that will fuel my desire to dress goth. So that when I go back to school, I will be totally fired up to be the gothiest I can.
The hair straightening thing is because my hair is extremely damaged already from bleaching, that I just need to let it chill. I still will bleach it, but I just won't straighten it.
To be honest, I probably won't last very long. For sure, I think I will last through Level 2, but the others are really hard =(

The Un-Goth Me
We all have different interests. There is no goth in the world that that is their whole life. Goths always have non-goth interests. There is no one where everything they do is goth. If someone tried doing that, I think they'd probably go crazy before they realized it's stupid.
So, I have many un-goth interests and things. So, I'll talk about some of that stuff.
I am a band geek. I love my school band, marching band, drum corps, orchestra... Anything like that. I play flute, percussion, and sax in my school ensembles. I'm also one the very elite musicians at my school.
I also play piano. Have been playing for a little over 10 years now. It's my life.
I love reading. I guess this could possibly be a goth thing, cause many goths love to read. And I do read lots of gothic literature.
I LOVE Lady Gaga. I understand that she's a mainstream artists, but that doesn't mean I can't like her! I love the music, and her physical appearance. She's just so wild, and the fact that she's so mainstream yet so "weird" as people might say, is the coolest thing ever to me. I love how she never looks the same. Every time you see her, she looks like a completely different person than at other times. That to me is super cool as well.
I adore theater. I do everything behind-the-scenes in my school's theater. And I really hope that it can be my future career. I'm planning to either major or minor in technical theater in college, haven'y quite decided. Because I want to major in music too, but then there's theater which I want as my career.. But then music.. My director always says that I can do them both, but idk.
You may think that my favorite color is black, but... you're right. My favorite color is in fact black. But, that's not just because I'm goth.. Black has been my favorite color since I was 10. My second favorite color is probably red. But I also LOVE rainbow. It's such a non-goth thing, but I love rainbows and rainbow colored things.
I also love cheetah print. Anything neon cheetah print, I love.
I am a total hippie. I grew up with reggae, and it's kinda in my genetics too. I love the beach, hate shoes, and have dreadlocks. I never shower, love marijuana, and don't even take care of myself enough. It's kinda funny. Also, I'm in the drumline at my high school, and we're basically just a bunch of hippies coming together and drumming. It's pretty rad.
Speaking of reggae, I'm going to see Ziggy Marley in a couple months, super pumped.
I listen to goth music, of course, but not all the time. Really, I don't listen to very much goth music at all.. The little that I do listen to is usually on the more industrial/EBM side of it. The genre I listen to the most is metalcore. Anything you'd classify as "hardcore." Bands I like include: Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, All That Remains, Disturbed, Slipknot, Pierce The Veil, Five Finger Death Punch, Korn, Stone Sour, A Day To Remember, Woe Is Me, Northlane, Suicide Silence, Like Moths To Flames, Motionless In White, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk, Asking Alexandria, Carnifex... I could go on for hours, but those are the main bands I listen to. So, yes, I listen to goth music, but not primarily.
If I wasn't goth, I'd probably be a big mixture of things. I'd be a hippie as I am now for sure, and I'd be grunge with a touch of indie.
I listen to a TON of not goth music like metal and hardcore stuff. So, I'd be what the norm for one of the hardcore scene would dress as. The typical toms, skinny jeans, tattoos, piercings, stretched ears..

I'm not sure if this is a goth thing, but I am obsessed with Hitler. Like, I honestly don't know why, I just am. I have no reason, it's just the way he looks and how serious he seems.. idk I supposed because of his intensity. That's the word.

The type of guys I like
When people say they have a "type,"... well I don't.
Honestly, some of the guys I've liked are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
For example, I'll like guys like this :
Or this:
And then I'll turn and be like, hey babe, to this:
Or even this:
Yeah, I'm weird, I know.
One of the things I've noticed is that for the most part, most of the guys that I like have to have long hair.
It's just a must have.
As for personality, it really doesn't matter. They just need to have good music and style taste.
I'd honestly prefer for them to be goth, or at least alternative, so that they'd be able to understand me more, but it's not a must-have trait.
As long as they let me wear their clothes, cuddle, and bring me food, they're perfect for me.
I also don't like when guys have super high morals, 'cause I feel like if I do the slightest rebellious thing, they'll be like "LJABFVJLHBFV!"
I'm okay with guys being innocent, though. Just not the high morals. Please. Thank you.

Fanfiction
Not exactly sure how this post is gonna work, I'll probably just babble... Bear with me.
So, I just discovered fanfiction probably about 4 or 5 months ago. Ever since, I've have been IN LOVE with it. Basically, in fanfiction, all your fantasies come to life. The stuff that you imagine in your head when you're daydreaming actually written down, is what fanfiction basically is.
Fanfiction is different for everyone. For me, I like the ones about band members. 'Cause that's like my life: music. And having something written that I've pretty much already fantasized about at some time is amazing.
Really, it's hard to understand the depth of it until you actually do it.
Kinda like Tumblr. You hear so much good stuff about it, but never know the pure amazingness of it until you actually experience it for yourself.
I have written a few fanfictions, and am thinking about making a blog dedicated to my fanfictions this summer, but I'm not quite sure yet. It would take a LOT of time, and I'm not that fab of a writer, so I'll see.
What I've been thinking about doing, is just starting writing fanfiction and post it on Fanfiction, Tumblr, and BlogSpot.
Oh, btw, fanfiction originates from the actual site called Fanfiction: http://www.fanfiction.net/
So, yeah, just go on there, and go crazy. Search anything really, and you'll find a good story. It's quite amazing. It also gets quite addicting, like Tumblr. Once, you start you never wanna stop. Just a warning.

Reaction stories: goth and others
So, recently, I've been having a lot of reactions to the way I dress, and have actually been recognized as a goth (FINALLY!).
And I thought I'd tell about those recent ones, but also some others that are not necessarily about being goth, since I am a "babybat."
I've always gotten stares, as you always get dressing any way that is other than the norm.
But recently, I've been told what people have been saying.
What I've heard is: my friend told me she heard a freshman(of course) girl saying something along the lines of, "Have you seen what the goth girl is wearing today?"
Now, I live in a small town. Like, I'm talking small. There's NO other goths at my school, and I don't know any in the area, so yeah. The majority of my school is either cowboys or rich kids. And I get a lot of prejudice from people.
I was sitting in my history class, minding my own business, when this cowboy guy comes up and sits in front of me. He's really judgmental about a lot of stuff, so I knew it was coming. He looked at my binder, which has Motionless In White on it, and said, "Where they from? Hell?" And I replied, "No. Next door." But he liked all the other bands I had on my binder, so that was cool.
Another time, I was in chemistry, and this same guy saw my Black Veil Brides tee shirt, and said, "What's your shirt say?" He looked at it for a few seconds and said, "Yeah, I like bands that don't wear makeup, and aren't gay." I just ignored it, as always.
Like, none of them are gay, they have girlfriends. And I listen to many types of music, not just one band or one type of music.
Some of my friends react to my outfits sometimes, too. None of them are goth, so it's not surprising, they don't understand it.
In my French class last week, we did a fashion show. My group did alternative fashion. I dressed goth, of course. I wore: creepers, leather pants that are basically like a second skin, bullet belt, black tank top, fishnet glove, spiky bracelet, chain collar, black lipstick. So, I guess it was kinda shocking for the class and especially the teacher. We had a substitute, so she wasn't used to my style, and she was really old, too. So, I expected the teacher to be like, mean or something, but she came up to me and said, "I really like your hair, where'd you get it done?" And that made me happy. But, when I asked her if I could change out of the pants (cause it was kinda like I wasn't even wearing pants, they were that tight), she said, "Yeah, before someone picks you up." That made me laugh, cause I don't think anybody at my school likes goths. I just highly doubt that they are attracted to that.
Lately, I have also been getting a lot of compliments from random people, too.
Like random people I don't even know will somehow know my name..
I've just been walking down the hall, and someone will be like, "Avery, I love your shirt." Or "I love your hair."
But it's been happening a lot lately, so that's been nice.
When I was 13 and 14, I had really short hair. At 13 it was like uber short and I had a fauxhawk. At 14 it was basically Justin Bieber. Ew, I know. But I was mistaken for a boy SOO MUCH. Literally, I could tell you so many stories about being called a boy. But I will just tell a few.
I was at the library, in line to check out my books. And some old lady was in line, too. The librarian thought she was next, but I actually was. The old lady said, "He's next." I ignored it of course, cause what am I gonna do? "I'm a girl, lady." No, I'm too shy to correct old people like that.
I was at a memorial day service at the park, and it was really crowded. There were old people everywhere. And this older man, probably in his 60s comes up, pushing a very old man in a wheelchair. I moved out of the way, and they passed kinda. And the 60s man was like, "Come on up here, son." Again, what can you say? I just went up.
Another time, we were hosting my moms best friend's baby shower at our house. I was wearing my pajamas which were: adidas pants, and an old tee shirt. And my mom's best friend's mom said to my mom, "Who's the boy?" And my mom was like, "That's my DAUGHTER, Avery."
And that is why I do not have short hair anymore.
Those are really all the reactions I could think of, so I hope you enjoyed hearing the stuff that happens to me. I usually ignore it all, cause what people think of me is not what matters. I was at a memorial day service at the park, and it was really crowded. There were old people everywhere. And this older man, probably in his 60s comes up, pushing a very old man in a wheelchair. I moved out of the way, and they passed kinda. And the 60s man was like, "Come on up here, son." Again, what can you say? I just went up.
Another time, we were hosting my moms best friend's baby shower at our house. I was wearing my pajamas which were: adidas pants, and an old tee shirt. And my mom's best friend's mom said to my mom, "Who's the boy?" And my mom was like, "That's my DAUGHTER, Avery."
And that is why I do not have short hair anymore.
Those are really all the reactions I could think of, so I hope you enjoyed hearing the stuff that happens to me. I usually ignore it all, cause what people think of me is not what matters. Life is too short to care what people think. I wanna do what I want, even though it may be stupid at times, and I'm not gonna let people's opinions bring me down.

Happy World Goth Day!
So, today is World Goth Day! It's my first WGD as a goth!
I wanted to do something gothy like go to the local cemetery and eat Taco Bell.
Or maybe wear my Victorian dress and go to the park and read Anne Rice.
But no! I didn't do anything of that, since finals are next week.
The only cool thing I did was tell my scene friends it's WGD, which is an accomplishment!
So, it could've been better, but hopefully I'll have a nice one next year.
But yeah, here's some gothy pictures for your oh-so-goth interests. =)

My future career hopes
Okay, enough about music and style.
I wanna talk about my future career hopes.
So, right now I'm a sophomore in high school, so I'm just starting to get an idea of what I want to do in college.
I've always known that I want to be a music major.
But lately, so many new doors have opened for me, there are so many possibilities of things I could do.
I honestly haven't researched college much, so I don't exactly know yet.
I want to go to a university or state college for sure.
I'd be fine staying in California, it's a beautiful area. I'd also be fine going far away.
I think that college is a stressful time. But it is also a time to go out in the world, and not rely on your parents anymore.
I want to go to a big city. I live in the smallest town on the planet. In the middle of nowhere.
We have grapevines, the beach, and the Midstate Fair. And not to mention hicks. Cowboys and country music everywhere. I CAN'T STAND IT. I hate, hate, hate how small it is here. Literally, everyone knows everyone here.
So, I wanna just get the hell out of here.
I want to major in music of course. Don't know specifically yet. I also want to go down the road of theater. Lately, I've been working at my school's theater a lot, and I love it. Since I was young I was always fascinated with the behind the scenes aspect of the theater. Thought it was so cool, and always wanted to do lighting stuff. Once I got to high school, I got really involved in the drama program. I designed lighting for all the shows this year, and did a few other shows outside of school with other groups.
As a future job, I would LOVE to do something with lighting. I'd love to become a professional lighting designer. I'd be fine working at a theater, with a company, or even touring with a group. It's just become my calling in the last few years.
For music, it could definitely be a career. Someday, I want to teach music, of course. Could even make money now giving piano lesson, I just don't have the time.
Though I feel it is not as much of a practical career as theater oriented stuff.
It has always been my dream to be in a band. I'm hoping that will also happen someday. Even though I doubt we'd get big, it be a fun experience.

Slipknot
I'm not all that sure about how this post is gonna work, so bear with me.
Slipknot is an amazing nu-metal band formed in 1995. Some describe their music as post-Korn, alternative metal, neo-shock rock, and rap-metal. Yes, they can be categorized by these, but above all, their genre is nu-metal.
I discovered Slipknot probably a few years ago. I really can't remember exactly when, I have really bad long-term memory. The thing I do remember is this:
When I was around 7 or 8, I was driving in the car, and my dad was surfing through the radio stations. He got to a rock station, and it was Psychosocial. I never had heard anything like it back then, and I was kinda in awe of it. When I got into metal as a pre-teen and I heard it, I realized, "Hey, it's that song I heard when I was little!" My first metal song ever. I just thought that was the coolest thing ever. I love telling that story.
Slipknot receives a lot of criticism from many different people. Goths being one, I think because people may have called them goth, yet they are not goth in any way. Also, metal elitists, because they don't like nu-metal or something along those lines.
Slipknot has a very big theatrical appearance, and their shows have a lot of crazy theatrical stuff going on. That, I love, though not everyone is as crazy about it as I am. They all wear matching industrial jumpsuits, number 0 through 8. They wear homemade Halloween masks, which is a huge thing that makes each member distinguishable. I really wanna get a Slipknot mask. I wanna get all of them, really!
They call their fans "Maggots," which is very fitting for the band's theme. They even have a song called "Pulse of the Maggots." I am proud to be a Maggot.
The bassist, Paul Grey, passed away a few years ago, which was such a tragic loss. I actually saw a tattoo show once, and Corey Taylor(vocalist) was getting a tattoo of Paul on his leg, and it was so sad. He was totally crying throughout the whole thing; it made me cry too.
So, I'm gonna talk about the music a bit. After all, that is what this post is about.

This album has so many good songs! It was a great start for the band, showing their sound and who they are.
Good songs: (sic), Wait And Bleed, Surfacing, Spit It Out, Tattered And Torn, Scissors, and Eeyore.
Slipknot 10th Anniversary Edition
This is basically the first album, with some new songs thrown in. It's sooo good!
Good songs: Purity, and a whole bunch of demos. Totally worth getting.
Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses (Special Package)
This album has 20 tracks, and every single one of them is good. When this album was released, you could tell that they were at their best then.
Good songs: The Blister Exists, Duality, Vermilion, Pulse Of The Maggots, Before I Forget, Vermilion Pt. 2, The Nameless, Danger - Keep Away, Disasterpiece, People = Shit.
All Hope Is Gone
This album has a little bit of a quieter vibe. Yes, there are songs with the classic driving sound, but most of them are quieter. It's really good.
Good songs: Psychosocial, Dead Memories, Wherein Lies Continue, Snuff, All Hope Is Gone, Child Of Burning Time, Vermilion Pt. 2 (Bloodstone Mix), 'Til We Die.
Antennas To Hell
This album is pretty new. Came out last year. It's basically a lot of old songs plus a shit-ton of live stuff. The live stuff is really good, though, so it's worth it totally.
Good songs: Left Behind, The Heretic Anthem(live), Purity (live), (sic) (live), Wait And Bleed (live), Before I Forget (live). Basically all the live stuff is amazing.
That's pretty much all I have to say about Slipknot. They have another band with Corey Taylor and one of the guitarists called Stone Sour. That band is really good too, though they're a toned down version of Slipknot.

The Pretty Reckless
So, I recently discovered The Pretty Reckless because I think Taylor Momsen was mentioned in a vlog I was watching, and I got curious. When I started listening to them, I fell in love. I mostly really love Taylor Momsen. I honestly want to be just like her.
I also really love how she went from being a star on Gossip Girl to being a rock star. I also didn't know this, but she was Cindy Lou from How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
She really is my inspiration in my style. She's not really totally goth, but close I think.
I also love her long hair.
After years of getting short haircuts, now I'm sick of it, and trying my best to grow it out.
I have 18" hair extensions, but I can never get them the same color as my hair, and they're so much trouble, too.
The other thing I love about TPR is the music videos. They are all so cool. There's not one that I don't like.
Make Me Wanna Die
In this video, it switches back and forth from the band playing, to Taylor walking and basically taking off all her clothes, then jumping into a fire. It's really good.

In this video, the song is more quiet, it's all acoustic. She's reminiscing of a past relationship.
Just Tonight
I love this one mostly because of the dresses she wears. The first one (above) is a floor length lacey dress. It's basically the prom dress of my dreams. I hope I get this exact dress for my senior prom. =) The second one is a skin-tight red leather dress. I love that one as well.
My Medicine
This video is basically about getting wasted. She goes to a party and is drunk az fuk. I like it a lot.
Miss Nothing
In this one, she crawls all over the table and under it. Looking perfect as always. The song has a more upbeat, punk sound.
Overall, TPR is a great band. They're not what I normally listen to. But Momsen is one of my biggest influences and inspirations. Whenever I'm asked who I'm inspired by, or who my idol is, I say Manson and Momsen.

Goth Music
The goth music scene derives from the 80s post-punk scene. Not many people know that the goth culture is mainly a music culture. So, many of the bands that I mention here are the source of gothic style, music, and the subculture itself.
Bear in mind that I am pretty new to goth music, and I really don't know all that much about a lot of the bands mentioned, but I will try my best.
The Batcave
The infamous Batcave is a club in London, England. This is the said birthplace of the goth subculture. It originally specialized in new wave and glam rock, but later became the headquarters for gothic rock. Specimen's lead singer Ollie Wisdom and Jon Klein ran the Batcave. It became a regular gig for artists including Bauhaus, Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Foetus, and Nick Cave.
Specimen
As I said before, Specimen's Ollie Wisdom and Jon Klein ran the Batcave. They were also a very good early goth band. When I first started listening to goth music, they never really spoke to me until later.
Good songs: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Beauty Of Poisin
Siouxsie And The Banshees
I'm not a huge fan of the music (YET!). But, for me, I like the group for the lead singer, Siouxsie Sioux. Just about every goth girl looks up to her in some way.
Joy Division
Now, as you can see, not all goth bands dress goth. It doesn't mean they're not goth. There's one things to dress goth and it's a whole other thing to sound goth. That's a common misconception that many people have about the goth world. For example, people say the Marilyn Manson is goth. He dresses goth, but his music isn't, so many people would disagree.
But yeah, Joy Division is a great band. Lot's of good songs.
The Cure
The Cure is one of the biggest goth bands ever. I have such a passionate love for them. Robert Smith, the lead singer, was a big pioneer of goth. Every time "Friday I'm In Love" comes on, my heart aches because I love it sooo much.
Good songs: Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven, Boys Don't Cry.
Bauhaus
Bauhaus is, in my opinion, the most popular goth band. There is no goth in the world who doesn't know Bauhaus. They are THE goth band. Their hit, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," will get any goth out on the dancefloor. You play Bauhaus for a goth, and they will love it, no lie. Sure, there might be a goth or two that doesn't like them for some reason. But for the most part, they represent the subculture well.
Good songs: Bela Lugosi's Dead, Dark Entries, The Passion Of Lovers, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, Kick In The Eye, and In The Flat Field.
The Birthday Party
The Birthday Party, fronted by Nick Cave, was a dark post-punk band with lots of noisy, violent and perverse lyrics. Also, Nick Cave is quite attractive, and he created another group, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, whom I really like.
Sisters of Mercy
Sisters of Mercy is another leading English goth band. They play a mix of metal and psychedelia.
Good songs: Temple of Love, More, This Corrosion, and Lucretia My Reflection.
Fields of the Nephilim
This band I really liked from the start. Their songs are dark, cryptic, occult-themed goth rock songs. They dress in older clothes that seem like they're from another century.
Good songs: Moonchild, For Her Light, The Watchmen(my favorite), Last Exit For The Lost, and At The Gates Of Silent Memory.
Skeletal Family
Fronted by the amazing Anne-Marie Hurst, Skeletal Family was the first post-punk band that I was really drawn to. Their sound is really good, especially for their time.
Good songs: Promised Land, She Cries Alone, The Night
Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode is a new wave band dating back to 1976, yet they are still making music and going strong. The first time I heard them, my mom was showing me them.
Good songs: Heaven, Personal Jesus, and Just Can't Get Enough.
Oingo Boingo
Oingo Boingo was often compared to Devo because of their new wave sound, goofy stage acts, and weird name. Yet they were really nothing alike. Oingo Boingo is a band I really love. They were legit genius musicians. You tell because Danny Elfman is a ingenius composer for orchestra, and so is Bela Bartek. I actually really want to get a Danny Elfman portrait tattoo someday because he has been such an influence on me and my music.
Good songs: Dead Man's Party, Weird Science, Little Girls, Just Another Day, and Stay.
Wednesday 13
Wednesday 13 is a horror punk band formed in 2004. I really love their music, it kinda seems like a classic angry punk/goth sound. I hope to see them live someday.
Good songs: Bad Things, I Walked With A Zombie, God Is A Lie, Get Your Grave On, and Xanaxtasy.
The Creepshow
The Creepshow is a psychobilly band from Canada. They sing about horror films and rockabilly. I really like them actually, even though I don't listen to psychobilly very often, they're really good.
Good songs: The Garden, Zombies Ate Her Brain, Creatures of the Night, Shake, and Cherry Hill.
45 Grave
45 Grave is a deathrock band from LA. They began in 1985 touring around at many goth clubs. I really love their music, just deathrock in general is one of my favorite types of goth music.
Good songs: Evil, Partytime, Riboflavin, Surf Bat, and Night of the Demons.
Scarlet's Remains
Scarlet's Remains is probably my favorite deathrock band there is. I love their sound because of the grungy sound of the bass and the vocals.
Good songs: Metall Heiligenschein, That Was A Lie, The Magician, Hope Against Hope, and Far From Paradise.
The Cramps
The Cramps are a blend of rockabilly, rock, and classic horror movies. The psychobilly scene would be nothing like them. I really like The Cramps, their songs make great soundtrack music for anything really.
Good songs: Human Fly, The Way I Walk, Funnel Of Love, Goo Goo Muck, Fever, Surfin' Bird, and I Was A Teenage Werewolf.
The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls is a German cabaret group. (And I love cabaret btw.) Their clothes are half burlesque and half goth. Their music is very theatrical, you'd almost think it's from a musical or something. And I love that because I'm in the theater business.
Good songs: Coin Operated Boy, Girl Anachronism, Missed Me, Good Day, and Half Jack.
The Tiger Lillies
The Tiger Lillies are another burlesque cabaret group. Yet the thing that sets them apart is the comedy. The voice is hilarious, this group could almost be a circus band. And I love that about them, too. Oh, and there's also lots of accordion, which is awesome too, since I'm a beginner at accordion.
Good songs: Start A Fire, Crack Of Doom, Sin, 1 2 3 4, King Is Dead, and Freakshow.
Desiderii Marginis
I couldn't find any pics of them, just this one, so I guess it's one guy. Desiderii Marginis is of the dark ambient genre, I guess. (I'm not positive.) But what it really is, is just super dark music. I love it though, because Darkness is my lover. Yeah, it's instrumental, and you won't like it if you don't like dark music.
Good songs: Silent Messenger, Come Ruin And Rapture, Land Of Strangers, Her Name Is Poverty, and Constant Like The Northern Star.
KMFDM
KMFDM is a very popular industrial band. The name stands for "Kein Mitleid Fur Die Mehrheit," which means "no pity for the majority." They're a really good and popular industrial group, and they're still going strong and making good music.
Good songs: Megalomaniac, Kunst, Juke Joint Jezebel, WWIII, and Ave Maria.
Stabbing Westward
Stabbing Westward is an industrial rock band formed in 1985. I didn't know they were this old, but their first EP released in 1990. I've always heard them on the radio and stuff like that.
Good songs: Save Yourself, What Do I Have To Do?, Shame, So Far Away, and Bizarre Love Triangle.
Rob Zombie
Rob Zombie is one of my favorite solo acts ever next to Marilyn Manson. A lot of people don't think his music is goth, but I've found that a lot of goths like his music so, it's justified. His music is industrial metal. Robert Cummings is really a genius. He started his career by working for the kids show "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." He has directed many movies including Halloween, (a fave horror movie of mine.) His music and expertise in general has influenced me so much, I want a Rob Zombie themed tattoo someday, though I don't know what it will be yet.
Good songs: Dragula, Living Dead Girl, Sick Bubblegum, Reload, Teenage Nosferatu Pussy, Superbeast, Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown, Revelation Revolution, Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole), and Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Gaga Laga.
Marilyn Manson

Merzbow
So, I do not listen to this group, and I'd be surprised if you've heard of them. The genre is called noise. It's basically white noise. I thought I'd mention it because I think it's really unique that this genre exists. People who listen to this must have a high tolerance for annoying noises, just saying. Love it or hate it. It's basically like listening to warped radio static turned up super loud.
Wynardtage
Wynardtage is the product of Kai Arnold. It is a mostly industrial sound. It's actually really good. Perfect for the goth club.
Good songs: A Flicker Of Hope, Flash Of Healing, Warm Up My Heart, Regret, White Frost,
Apoptygma Berzerk
Apoptygma Berzerk is an industrial group that is actually one guy. His name is Stephan Groth. They've been going since the early 90s, but are still going strong.
Good songs: Unicorn, Nothing Else Matters, Electricity, Until The End Of The World, Coma White, and Kathy's Song.
Dead Can Dance
Dead Can Dance is probably my favorite dark ambient band. They are a mix of European folk and ambient pop. To me, their music sounds very dark and tribal, which, surprisingly, I LOVE. So check them out.
Good songs: Children Of The Sun, Opium, Saltarello, The Host Of Seraphim, and Kiko.
Dimmu Borgir
Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian black metal band. If you want to listen to something more heavy rather than the gloomy rock dirges, listen to them. I really like them because I like metal a lot, yet they are goth, so I can call it goth music and not get spat on.
Good songs: Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse, Puritania, Gateways, The Serpentine Offering, and Sorgens Kammer.
Type O Negative
Type O Negative is a goth metal band that was formed in 1990. I love them because they have the quiet, hushed tendencies of goth rock, but driving sound of classic metal.
Good songs: Black No. 1, I Don't Wanna Be Me, Love You To Death, Everything Dies, and Everyone I Love Is Dead.
Theatres Des Vampires
Named after the infamous vampire theater in the book "Interview With A Vampire," (a personal favorite of mine) the operatic goth metal group has become quiet popular in the last decade. I especially love the way they dress. Many of their lyrics are in French, which I also speak pretty fluently.
Good songs: Figlio Della Luna, Keeper Of Secrets, Moonlight Waltz, Sangue, Carmilia, and La Danse "Macabria" Du Vampire.
Lacuna Coil
Lacuna Coil is not only popular in the goth metal world, but have risen to fame in the mainstream rock world. I first heard them of the radio, so I knew they were popular. They kind of reminded me of the band Skillet, though I'm sure that's because Skillet copied them.
Good songs: Trip The Darkness, Spellbound, Daylight Dancer

Bear in mind that I am pretty new to goth music, and I really don't know all that much about a lot of the bands mentioned, but I will try my best.
The Batcave
The infamous Batcave is a club in London, England. This is the said birthplace of the goth subculture. It originally specialized in new wave and glam rock, but later became the headquarters for gothic rock. Specimen's lead singer Ollie Wisdom and Jon Klein ran the Batcave. It became a regular gig for artists including Bauhaus, Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Foetus, and Nick Cave.
Specimen
As I said before, Specimen's Ollie Wisdom and Jon Klein ran the Batcave. They were also a very good early goth band. When I first started listening to goth music, they never really spoke to me until later.
Good songs: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Beauty Of Poisin
Siouxsie And The Banshees
I'm not a huge fan of the music (YET!). But, for me, I like the group for the lead singer, Siouxsie Sioux. Just about every goth girl looks up to her in some way.
Joy Division
Now, as you can see, not all goth bands dress goth. It doesn't mean they're not goth. There's one things to dress goth and it's a whole other thing to sound goth. That's a common misconception that many people have about the goth world. For example, people say the Marilyn Manson is goth. He dresses goth, but his music isn't, so many people would disagree.
But yeah, Joy Division is a great band. Lot's of good songs.
The Cure
The Cure is one of the biggest goth bands ever. I have such a passionate love for them. Robert Smith, the lead singer, was a big pioneer of goth. Every time "Friday I'm In Love" comes on, my heart aches because I love it sooo much.
Good songs: Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven, Boys Don't Cry.
Bauhaus
Bauhaus is, in my opinion, the most popular goth band. There is no goth in the world who doesn't know Bauhaus. They are THE goth band. Their hit, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," will get any goth out on the dancefloor. You play Bauhaus for a goth, and they will love it, no lie. Sure, there might be a goth or two that doesn't like them for some reason. But for the most part, they represent the subculture well.
Good songs: Bela Lugosi's Dead, Dark Entries, The Passion Of Lovers, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, Kick In The Eye, and In The Flat Field.
The Birthday Party
The Birthday Party, fronted by Nick Cave, was a dark post-punk band with lots of noisy, violent and perverse lyrics. Also, Nick Cave is quite attractive, and he created another group, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, whom I really like.
Sisters of Mercy
Sisters of Mercy is another leading English goth band. They play a mix of metal and psychedelia.
Good songs: Temple of Love, More, This Corrosion, and Lucretia My Reflection.
Fields of the Nephilim
This band I really liked from the start. Their songs are dark, cryptic, occult-themed goth rock songs. They dress in older clothes that seem like they're from another century.
Good songs: Moonchild, For Her Light, The Watchmen(my favorite), Last Exit For The Lost, and At The Gates Of Silent Memory.
Skeletal Family
Fronted by the amazing Anne-Marie Hurst, Skeletal Family was the first post-punk band that I was really drawn to. Their sound is really good, especially for their time.
Good songs: Promised Land, She Cries Alone, The Night
Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode is a new wave band dating back to 1976, yet they are still making music and going strong. The first time I heard them, my mom was showing me them.
Good songs: Heaven, Personal Jesus, and Just Can't Get Enough.
Oingo Boingo
Oingo Boingo was often compared to Devo because of their new wave sound, goofy stage acts, and weird name. Yet they were really nothing alike. Oingo Boingo is a band I really love. They were legit genius musicians. You tell because Danny Elfman is a ingenius composer for orchestra, and so is Bela Bartek. I actually really want to get a Danny Elfman portrait tattoo someday because he has been such an influence on me and my music.
Good songs: Dead Man's Party, Weird Science, Little Girls, Just Another Day, and Stay.
Wednesday 13
Wednesday 13 is a horror punk band formed in 2004. I really love their music, it kinda seems like a classic angry punk/goth sound. I hope to see them live someday.
Good songs: Bad Things, I Walked With A Zombie, God Is A Lie, Get Your Grave On, and Xanaxtasy.
The Creepshow
The Creepshow is a psychobilly band from Canada. They sing about horror films and rockabilly. I really like them actually, even though I don't listen to psychobilly very often, they're really good.
Good songs: The Garden, Zombies Ate Her Brain, Creatures of the Night, Shake, and Cherry Hill.
45 Grave
45 Grave is a deathrock band from LA. They began in 1985 touring around at many goth clubs. I really love their music, just deathrock in general is one of my favorite types of goth music.
Good songs: Evil, Partytime, Riboflavin, Surf Bat, and Night of the Demons.
Scarlet's Remains
Scarlet's Remains is probably my favorite deathrock band there is. I love their sound because of the grungy sound of the bass and the vocals.
Good songs: Metall Heiligenschein, That Was A Lie, The Magician, Hope Against Hope, and Far From Paradise.
The Cramps
The Cramps are a blend of rockabilly, rock, and classic horror movies. The psychobilly scene would be nothing like them. I really like The Cramps, their songs make great soundtrack music for anything really.
Good songs: Human Fly, The Way I Walk, Funnel Of Love, Goo Goo Muck, Fever, Surfin' Bird, and I Was A Teenage Werewolf.
The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls is a German cabaret group. (And I love cabaret btw.) Their clothes are half burlesque and half goth. Their music is very theatrical, you'd almost think it's from a musical or something. And I love that because I'm in the theater business.
Good songs: Coin Operated Boy, Girl Anachronism, Missed Me, Good Day, and Half Jack.
The Tiger Lillies
The Tiger Lillies are another burlesque cabaret group. Yet the thing that sets them apart is the comedy. The voice is hilarious, this group could almost be a circus band. And I love that about them, too. Oh, and there's also lots of accordion, which is awesome too, since I'm a beginner at accordion.
Good songs: Start A Fire, Crack Of Doom, Sin, 1 2 3 4, King Is Dead, and Freakshow.
Desiderii Marginis
I couldn't find any pics of them, just this one, so I guess it's one guy. Desiderii Marginis is of the dark ambient genre, I guess. (I'm not positive.) But what it really is, is just super dark music. I love it though, because Darkness is my lover. Yeah, it's instrumental, and you won't like it if you don't like dark music.
Good songs: Silent Messenger, Come Ruin And Rapture, Land Of Strangers, Her Name Is Poverty, and Constant Like The Northern Star.
KMFDM
KMFDM is a very popular industrial band. The name stands for "Kein Mitleid Fur Die Mehrheit," which means "no pity for the majority." They're a really good and popular industrial group, and they're still going strong and making good music.
Good songs: Megalomaniac, Kunst, Juke Joint Jezebel, WWIII, and Ave Maria.
Stabbing Westward
Stabbing Westward is an industrial rock band formed in 1985. I didn't know they were this old, but their first EP released in 1990. I've always heard them on the radio and stuff like that.
Good songs: Save Yourself, What Do I Have To Do?, Shame, So Far Away, and Bizarre Love Triangle.
Rob Zombie
Rob Zombie is one of my favorite solo acts ever next to Marilyn Manson. A lot of people don't think his music is goth, but I've found that a lot of goths like his music so, it's justified. His music is industrial metal. Robert Cummings is really a genius. He started his career by working for the kids show "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." He has directed many movies including Halloween, (a fave horror movie of mine.) His music and expertise in general has influenced me so much, I want a Rob Zombie themed tattoo someday, though I don't know what it will be yet.
Good songs: Dragula, Living Dead Girl, Sick Bubblegum, Reload, Teenage Nosferatu Pussy, Superbeast, Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown, Revelation Revolution, Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole), and Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Gaga Laga.
Marilyn Manson

Merzbow
So, I do not listen to this group, and I'd be surprised if you've heard of them. The genre is called noise. It's basically white noise. I thought I'd mention it because I think it's really unique that this genre exists. People who listen to this must have a high tolerance for annoying noises, just saying. Love it or hate it. It's basically like listening to warped radio static turned up super loud.
Wynardtage
Wynardtage is the product of Kai Arnold. It is a mostly industrial sound. It's actually really good. Perfect for the goth club.
Good songs: A Flicker Of Hope, Flash Of Healing, Warm Up My Heart, Regret, White Frost,
Apoptygma Berzerk
Apoptygma Berzerk is an industrial group that is actually one guy. His name is Stephan Groth. They've been going since the early 90s, but are still going strong.
Good songs: Unicorn, Nothing Else Matters, Electricity, Until The End Of The World, Coma White, and Kathy's Song.
Dead Can Dance
Dead Can Dance is probably my favorite dark ambient band. They are a mix of European folk and ambient pop. To me, their music sounds very dark and tribal, which, surprisingly, I LOVE. So check them out.
Good songs: Children Of The Sun, Opium, Saltarello, The Host Of Seraphim, and Kiko.
