There's been a lot of new music in these past couple of months.
Let's talk about some of it!
Bring Me The Horizon's Sempiternal
I actually really like this record. It's a lot different from what BMTH has done in the past.
Some highlights of this record:
Can You Feel My Heart
This is the 1st song on the album, and right away, it give you a good idea of what's it's gonna be like. They sport much more modern, electronic stuff in this song, and it works quite well.
The House Of Wolves
It kinda has the same type of feel as their old stuff, but not. Like old-new BMTH.
Shadow Moses
This is the hit track of the whole record. It's definitely the best. Just listen to it.
Korn's The Path of Totality
Okay, I know this album isn't that new(2011), but I just have to talk about it, since Korn hasn't done anything in a while before it.
To be honest, this album is a little iffy. There are some great tracks, yes, but without Head, they really aren't the same. They don't have the old Korn sound that everybody loves.
And I'm really not sure what I think about the whole dubstep thing. It's an awesome modern idea, but I don't know, it's not THEM.
The songs I like:
Narcissistic Cannibal (feat. Skrillex &Kill The Noise)
Skrillex + Korn = GOOD MUSIC.
That part of it was good. This song has good lyrics and melody.
Get Up (feat. Skrillex)
This song is amazing. I loved it sooo much when it first came out. But then, the radio had to ruin it for me and overplay it. That's something that really gets on my nerves. When a radio station overplays a song, and the song gets old. I hate it, because here's this awesome song, and they just ruin it. Dumb DJs.
But yeah, this is the hit, and you can definitely hear why. If Korn kept doing this type of thing throughout the album, then it would totally be kick-ass.
Way Too Far (feat. 12th Planet & Flinch)
This song's actually really good. At first, I thought I only like it for the music video, but no. The chorus is ingenious what with the background vocals. Jon Davis has still got it.
Bullet For My Valentine's Temper Temper
I was so freaking stoked when this came out, cause I ADORE BFMV. And it's really good, too!
It has the classic BFMV sound, but also some rad new stuff, too.
Breaking Point
Good opening to the record. Just awesome. Not much else to say, check it out.
Temper Temper
Good title track. Something new that's introduced here is spoken lyrics, kinda rapped. The chorus is super catchy, and almost popy.
Tears Don't Fall (Part 2)
This is the best song on the album. When I first heard it I was freaking out because, you know, Tears Don't Fall was AMAZING, and normally when there's a part 2 to an awesome song, it's not so awesome. WELL, this one is just as good as the first one. Good job, BFMV, you know how to do sequels. The right way.
Tenacious D's Rize Of The Fenix
I've always been a fan of Jack Black, since I was like 5. So, yeah, love the D.
This album was really good, I wasn't expecting it either, since they haven't done anything for awhile.
Roadie
I live by this song. Like seriously, it's so accurate. Being the roadie type, it hit home for me.
Plus, the music video's amazing. And it has Danny McBride as the roadie.
Flutes and Trombones
Hilarious skit thing. Flutes and trombones.
Rob Zombie's Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor
Super stoked about this one also. I LOVE Rob Zombie, and seeing that he's still got it is so freaking cool. It has the radio recordings of classic Rob Zombie stuff, and heavy goth-strip-anthem feel. I also love how the names are either super long or awesome. Or both.
Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown
Yep, that's the name of the song. This song is so catchy it's crazy. I had this song stuck in my head for like 3 days straight. The music video's good too.
Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole)
Sounds like the perfect goth club hit. It has the heavy bass and electronic stuff paired with his awesome deep, seductive voice. Like I said, perfect stripper anthem.
Trade In Your Guns For A Coffin
It's another catchy rock anthem, guys, and it's a good one.
Motionless In White's Infamous
I was totally anticipating this one. I follow MIW in like everything because I am an extremely dedicated fan. Their band encompasses everything I like in music and style too. So, yeah they're very special to me.
Amyway, yes, this album is amazing. They wanted it to be a kind of album that would get them away from all the bands that are nothing like them. Kind of get a kickstart in the direction they want to go. And I think it is the perfect album to do the job.
I really want to say something about every song, but I'll try not to.
Black Damask (The Fog)
Amazing opening to the record. The piano at the beginning is perfect. Kinda reminds me of "Walking Dead" by Bleeding Through. And I'm sure that's what they were going for. Lyrics. These lyrics are bomb. That's why they made a great lyric video. (And these lyrics are on my school binder) And normally you'd think a lyric video would just be the lyrics going by with some cool background. No, there's actual concert footage from the Infamous Tour with the lyrics popping up. It's sensational.
Devil's Night
They had a live video chat when it was the debut of the music video. I was there, even though I had to wait until the next morning for the video. But yeah, I also kinda live by this song. It pumps you up so much. The video is basically them in this junkyard, hunting slenderman. Idk if that's what they were going for, but they're pretty much slenderpeople. Chris Motionless is like the James Bond of the whole thing. They go around, like cutting the slenders faces into real faces, and then they join them and keep building up this army.. Just watch the video. Now.
America
Has more of an electronic almost Nine Inch Nails feeling. And it works perfectly too. Lyrics are basically about today's fucked society. Also, a lyric video JUST came out for this song, like I saw it for the first time yesterday.
The Divine Infection
I love this song because incorporates many different elements. The vocals in the verse are totally like Marilyn Manson's stuff, which Chris can totally pull off. Also the low bass in the verse is totally Manson-esque. The lyrics totally speak to me. Especially the speech. "Who the fuck are you to tell me what I can and can't do or say? No thanks, fuck you."
Sinematic
Absolutely flawless quieter song. The layered vocals sound really good. If you're thinking "City Lights" (from their earlier album), then no, this is way different than City Lights. And way better. It's kinda like NIN mixed with Manson stuff. Which equals perfection.
If It's Dead, We'll Kill It
What I think of when I hear this song: Watched a concert video of this and it was their opening song. The intro it was all in the dark, and then when Chris first screams, it just totally goes insane. Makes me think of how cool it would be to be there, and it's sad that I can't because their really at a good point.
Underdog
Okay, I promise this is the last one. It's just another one of those songs that pumps you up and makes you feel like no matter what people say, there's other people feeling the same way and those people who put you down are fucking worthless. The chords in the chorus are so cool. When I first heard it I was like "whoa, that's different."
Marilyn Manson's Born Villain
So, he's what, like 40-something now. (It makes me sad, too =***() And you'd think that he wouldn't be as good, cause you know, he's getting a little older ='''( Well, there's nothing like his old stuff. But don't get me wrong, there are some good tracks here. And his voice still sound perfect too, which is surprising. All that screaming does shit to your vocal chords.
No Reflection
The lyric pattern in the verse is the only thing I don't like here. Everything else is great. The video's good too. Typical ingenious Manson stuff.
Overneath The Path Of Misery
The intro is a spoken part that is just sooooo cool. He has a voice auto tune thing, but still it's like we're back in '95 again. The music video is really good. It's titled "Born Villain" but it's actually this song. But the video is quite different, and a lot more explicit. I like it.
Slo-mo-tion
This is probably the best (next to Overneath). It flows really well, and sounds a lot like Mechanical Animals stuff. Video's good too.
Punk Goes Pop 5
Yeah, I guess I'm actually gonna do this. I'm normally not very fond of PGP, but hell, why not do it anyway.
There were like 3 good songs this year. Kinda depressing.
Grenade (Memphis May Fire)
They nailed it. Matty's voice worked for the part. And the guitar riffs were nice, too.
Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Vic Fuentes) (Mayday Parade)
Pretty good. If I hadn't heard the original, I'd probably like this song.
Some Nights (Like Moths To Flames)
This is what PGP should be! Why aren't all the song like this?? It's flawless. Starts out with the normal verse vocals only, and then, the full band comes in and they scream the last word.. It just launches into a grinding heavy death metal song. This is what they should do! Pick bands like LMTF, and scare the shit out of all the hipsters with it. People who make PGP, please don't pick bands like Breathe Carolina or Mayday Parade. Pick heavy deathcore bands like MIW, BMTH, Chelsea Grin, STYG, etc.
Well, that it is it for new music that I listen to. I hope you enjoyed all the albums I covered. If you have any suggestions or if you want me to talk about a certain topic, feel free to let me know!
